National recognition marks Main Street Hanover’s 10th consecutive year as an accredited organization
Hanover, PA – Main Street Hanover has been designated as a 2026 Accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards established by Main Street America. This prestigious designation recognizes Main Street Hanover’s ongoing commitment to downtown revitalization, preservation-based economic development, and creating a vibrant, welcoming community through the nationally recognized Main Street Approach™.
This year’s designation marks a significant milestone for Main Street Hanover as the organization celebrates 10 consecutive years as an accredited Main Street America program, first achieving accreditation in 2016. For a decade, Main Street Hanover has demonstrated a sustained commitment to strengthening downtown Hanover through strategic programming, community partnerships, volunteer engagement, and economic development initiatives.

Main Street Hanover is one of 838 nationally recognized Accredited Main Street America organizations and is part of a network of more than 1,600 communities leading positive commercial district transformation efforts throughout the United States.
Main Street America recognizes two tiers of national designation, Accredited and Affiliate. These designations serve as a badge of excellence, signaling to community members, civic leaders, decision makers, funders, and partners that a Main Street program has demonstrated a commitment to the proven principles of downtown revitalization. The Main Street movement has a 45-year history of generating economic growth, fostering welcoming communities, preserving historic character, and creating lasting local impact.
Main Street Hanover’s performance was evaluated through assessments conducted by the organization’s staff and Board of Directors, as well as the Pennsylvania Downtown Center, which works in partnership with Main Street America to identify local programs that meet rigorous national community evaluation standards.
To qualify for Accredited status, Main Street America’s highest designation tier, communities must demonstrate success in six key areas: broad-based community commitment to revitalization; inclusive leadership and organizational capacity; diversified funding and sustainable program operations; strategy-driven programming; preservation-based economic development; and demonstrated impact and results.
Throughout 2025, Main Street Hanover continued to build momentum through expanded downtown events, business support initiatives, beautification projects, and community partnerships. The organization welcomed thousands of visitors to downtown events, supported local businesses through promotional opportunities and grant programs, and helped advance projects focused on improving downtown aesthetics, connectivity, and quality of life. In the organization’s 2024–2025 reporting year, Main Street Hanover helped celebrate 18 new businesses opening downtown, engaged the community through events attracting more than 6,100 attendees, and coordinated more than 554 volunteer hours dedicated to strengthening Hanover’s downtown.
Major accomplishments over the past year included the continued growth of signature events such as Christmas in Hanover, 2nd Saturdays, and First Friday Art Walks, as well as continued collaboration with local businesses, nonprofits, and municipal partners to support downtown investment.

In 2025, Main Street America programs generated $9.4 billion in local reinvestment, welcomed 6,936 net new businesses, facilitated the creation of 36,549 net new jobs, rehabilitated 10,623 historic buildings, and leveraged 1.8 million volunteer hours. On average, for every dollar a Main Street program spent on operations, $23.13 was reinvested in its downtown district.
