Gettysburg, PA  — Shining Stars Therapeutic Riding Program was honored to receive the support of Adams Electric Cooperative for a day of service on July 23, 2026. Adams Electric Cooperative, in partnership with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), brought together close to 50 skilled volunteers to complete improvement projects at Shining Stars’ new farm at 1225 Bon Ox Road, Gettysburg.

Adams Electric Cooperative’s mission includes an ongoing commitment to giving back to
the communities it serves. Adams Electric Cooperative partnered with NRECA to pool
people, tools, and equipment for a single, high-impact day of service benefiting Shining
Stars, a Gettysburg nonprofit that provides life-changing therapeutic horsemanship
programs to children and adults with special needs, veterans, and senior citizens.

Volunteers from Adams Electric Cooperative and NRECA spent the day working on
Shining Stars’ new 60-acre farm, where a new 38,000 square foot facility is currently being
constructed. Volunteers helped to prepare the existing barn so that it is safe and ready for
horses to move into, transformed the existing indoor arena into storage space, and completed
landscaping projects.

“The work will make a real difference for our program and the individuals we serve,” said Pam Hoffman, Shining Stars Board President. “We are so grateful to Adams Electric Cooperative, NRECA, and every volunteer who gives their time and energy to help us prepare for what’s ahead.”

With the barn and arena improvements underway and the grounds refreshed, Shining Stars will be better positioned to move into this property in early 2027 and continue delivering its therapeutic horsemanship services to the community.
