Grant is part of more than $112 million given by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to public safety organizations across the country.
Hanover, PA – As first responders continue to serve the Littlestown, Pennsylvania community, it is essential they have the equipment they need to respond safely and efficiently. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® recognized the need for new lifesaving equipment and recently awarded a more than $21,000 grant to Alpha Fire Company No. 1 to purchase four new sets of firefighter bunker gear.
The new coats, pants, helmets, boots, hoods and gloves will provide the department with stronger response capabilities. The new personal protective equipment (PPE) will protect firefighters from heat and hazards, increasing response capabilities and improving outcomes.
“We are so grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® and our local Firehouse Subs® restaurant in Hanover for their generous support,” said Fire Chief Justin Myers, Alpha Fire Company No. 1. “The new bunker gear will help us respond to emergencies safely and more efficiently. Alpha Fire Company No. 1 is proud to receive this support and have the resources to give back to our community when they need it most.”
Directly following the ceremony, Firehouse Subs in Hanover hosted a Touch-The-Truck event in celebration of National Fire Protection Association® (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week and Firehouse Subs First Responders Month. This was a fun, interactive and educational event for the entire family, giving guests a special hands-on opportunity to experience a fire truck while meeting the frontline heroes who operate them. In support of NFPA’s efforts, kids and families received co-branded fire safety materials featuring Sparky the Fire Dog®.
October is also First Responders Month at Firehouse Subs, an annual fundraising campaign aimed at raising funds to provide much-needed lifesaving equipment for first responders. This year’s campaign focuses on helping first responders answer the call. Restaurant visitors can support the effort by purchasing a $1, $5 or $20 medallion at the register.
