Gettysburg, PA. — Gettysburg Foundation invites the community and visitors to experience the George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital through a series of guided tours, living history weekends and special evening programs offered throughout the summer.
During the Battle of Gettysburg, the George Spangler family farm became one of the Union Army’s largest field hospitals, where more than 1,900 wounded soldiers received treatment. Today, the preserved 80-acre site shares the stories of those who lived, worked and received care there.
“The George Spangler Farm & Field Hospital holds a unique place in Gettysburg’s story,” said Billy Griffith, Gettysburg Foundation’s Historic Sites Manager. “Visitors experience the battlefield from a different perspective here, learning how this peaceful farm became one of the Union Army’s largest field hospitals and the human stories that unfolded during and after the fighting.”
