Majestic Theater’s 2024-2025 Season Kicks Off August 9

Gettysburg, PA (May 31, 2024) – Musical tributes and dazzling physical feats will fill the historic 1925 auditorium at Gettysburg College’s Majestic Theater when the 2024-2025 Celebrity Season kicks off this August. The season lineup includes classic rock and roll, jazz, the universal languages of comedy and percussion, daring street acrobatics and athleticism, and the annual one-night Mountainfilm on Tour screening event. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 21. Majestic members can access ticket pre-sales starting Wednesday, June 19.
The launch of the 2024-2025 season coincides with Executive Director Brett W. Messenger’s arrival at the Majestic after arriving in Gettysburg in late May following Founding Executive Director Jeffrey Gabel’s retirement in early 2024. Messenger is looking forward to getting to know Gettysburg audiences and is already working to schedule additional performing artists to grace the stage during the season.
“The upcoming season is rife with opportunities for Majestic audiences from near and far to gather for meaningful entertaining experiences. I look forward to getting to know our audiences and this community over the course of many great nights of music and performance,” said Messenger. “The Majestic’s Founding Executive Director, Jeffrey Gabel planned a thoughtful slate of performances for us to enjoy together. It is a true testament to his great legacy and dedication to this community and audiences young and old.”
Since the 1980s, 1964 The Tribute has been thrilling live audiences by transporting them to an early 1960s Beatles concert, re-created with period instruments, clothing, hairstyles, and onstage banter. After last appearing before Majestic audiences in the summer of 2012, 1964 returns to Gettysburg on Friday, August 9 at 7:30 p.m. to kick off the season. The performance is made possible by the J. William Warehime Fund of the Majestic Theater Centennial Endowment.
On Saturday, October 12 at 3 p.m., internationally renowned BAM Percussion brings The Blue Barrel Show to the Majestic with its powerful rhythms and riotously funny sketches. This show, made possible by the Sites Family Endowed Fund for Children’s Programming and the Jean S. LeGros and Jeffrey Gabel Endowed Fund for Family Programming, is appropriate for all ages. Next on Friday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m., audiences are invited to witness an evening in music history. When Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley met up at Memphis’ Sun Records on December 4, 1956, no one could have guessed the jam session that ensued would turn into a landmark evening in rock and roll. One Night in Memphis pays tribute to that historic night with rockabilly, country, gospel, and pure 1950s rock and roll showcased by a live band. The performance is made possible by the Majestic Theater Centennial Endowment’s Lydia Ziegler Clare Fund.
Mountainfilm on Tour returns for the fifth year on Friday, January 24 at 7:30 p.m. Bringing the latest culturally rich and inspiring documentary short films from the annual Mountainfilm festival held each May in Telluride, Colo., Mountainfilm on Tour has become a tradition to warm up Gettysburg audiences each January. Films explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission to use the power of film and art to inspire audiences to create a better world.
Jazz at Lincoln Center PRESENTS brings the soul of Mardi Gras to the Majestic on Wednesday, February 26 at 7:30 p.m. with New Orleans Songbook. Featuring world-class rising musicians straight from New York’s Lincoln Center, this evening of live performance immerses audiences in a celebration of the composers and melodies of the historic epicenter of jazz, the Crescent City. Finally, on May 2 at 7:30 p.m., 360 AllStars connects the street to performing arts with a supercharged urban circus featuring world champion and world record holding artists and athletes exploring all forms of rotation. New Orleans Songbook and 360 AllStars are each made possible in part by the Majestic Theater Centennial Endowment Fund.
Further events will be added to the 2024-2025 season schedule. For the latest updates on Majestic Theater news, including newly announced performances and films, sign up for email updates on the Majestic’s website, www.gettysburgmajestic.org
.
Tickets for the 2024-2025 Celebrity Season will go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 21. All Majestic members may access the ticket pre-sale on Wednesday, June 19; headliner and benefactor members may access ticket pre-sale on Monday, June 17. Tickets are available online at www.gettysburgmajestic.org, by calling (717) 337-8200, or by stopping by the Box Office at 25 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. The Box Office is open Monday through Friday, 3-7:30 p.m., Saturday, 12-7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5:30 p.m. Free parking and roundtrip shuttle service for most live shows is available from Gettysburg College’s Constitution Parking Lot. Shuttle starts one hour before each performance and is ADA accessible. Metered parking is available at the Gettysburg Borough Parking Garage in Racehorse Alley as well as along Carlisle Street.
The Majestic Theater at the Jennifer and David LeVan Performing Arts Center is owned and operated by Gettysburg College as a gathering place for its campus and community to celebrate the arts together.

“The annual banquet provides not only an opportunity to celebrate Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests, but organizations, individuals and businesses that are committed to conservation and recreational opportunities,” said Marci Mowery, President of the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation. “We applaud their hard work and dedication to creating a Pennsylvania that is a better place to live, work and play.”
“Additionally, I would like to thank the sponsors that made the banquet possible. Their support makes the annual celebration a reality. Visit the Foundation’s website at https://ppff.events/2024AwardsProgram to see the banquet program and full list of sponsors.”

Historic Homes on the Gettysburg Battlefield Now Available for Public Leasing

Gettysburg, PA – Gettysburg National Military Park (NMP) is pleased to announce that two historic homes on the Gettysburg battlefield, the Michael Bushman and the John Slyder houses, will be available for overnight accommodations beginning on May 24, 2024. Both houses witnessed the Battle of Gettysburg throughout the day on July 2, 1863. The Bushman farm served as staging ground for Confederate General John Bell Hood’s attack and the Slyder farm was used as a defensive position for Union sharpshooters.
“Our visitors will now have an extraordinary opportunity to stay in two of the battlefield’s historic homes,” says Gettysburg NMP Superintendent, Kristina Heister. “The Bushman house served as a rental property prior to the global Covid-19 pandemic and visitor feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The program is being implemented as a three-year pilot that affords visitors with a unique and immersive experience on the battlefield and provides funding support for the repair and maintenance of our many historic structures.”
Reservations for the homes must be made using the reservation system on Recreation.gov.

Each home has updated kitchens and is fully equipped with dishes, utensils, coffee maker, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Central heating and air conditioning provide comfort year-round. Bed linens, sheets, pillows, and a limited supply of towels are available. Dish soap and dishwasher detergent are also provided.
After completing a reservation on the Recreation.gov website for the home of their choice, visitors will be contacted by National Park Service staff to sign a Short-Term Lease Agreement. Once this signed agreement is returned, visitors will receive further information about their stay.

Staying overnight in one of the historic homes offers a new and unique way to experience the battlefield. Please visit https://www.nps.gov/gett/planyourvisit/lodging.htm for 3D and 360-degree video tours along with a photo album of the interiors of both homes.
