Gettysburg, PA – This incredible community art project features a record-breaking, 3D-knitted and crocheted tapestry—created by crafters from all walks of life. The exhibition is a vibrant tribute to unity and perseverance through artistry and storytelling.
The organization behind this exhibition is a non-profit association based in France, fully self-funded and powered by grassroots effort—from donating materials and postage to organizing drop-off networks and logistics for transporting the panels around the world.
They rely primarily on guidebook sales, donations, and fundraising—such as auctions and raffles—to cover essential costs and continue their mission. Surplus funds support veteran and assistance dog charities. thelongestyarn.com
Each panel was created with the guidance of historians to ensure historical accuracy, and the scenes depict powerful moments from WWII—from the days leading up to D-Day, through to the Battle of Normandy, and Britain’s wartime resilience.
The exhibit in on display now through October 27th 2025 at the World War II American Experience Museum.
