Community Media Wins 2020 Hometown Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media Foundation

Community Media of South Central PA received a 2020 Hometown Media Award from the Alliance for Community Media Foundation. The awards program was established to honor and promote community media and local cable programs that are distributed on Public, Educational and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels.

Community Media received the national award for overall excellence in programming based on a sampling of content produced throughout 2019 by the New Oxford based organization. The sampling of media content included community event coverage of the 2019 Adams County Community Foundation’s Giving Spree, Adams County Overdose Awareness Day Walk, 75th Anniversary of D-Day ceremony in Gettysburg, The 2019 Apple Harvest Festival, Colonial Career and Tech Center tour, the 2019 Dancing with Local Stars fundraiser, United Hook and Ladder 33’s 10th anniversary and engine dedication, 19th Annual Callie Awards, candidate debates for local office, Open House programming, as well as area parades, municipal meetings, and sports coverage.

Raymond Gouker, founder and president of Community Media notes “We are honored, refreshed and energized to be recognized nationally by our peers at The Alliance for Community Media’s “Hometown Media Awards”. It makes the challenges of being a nonprofit organization whose mission is to enhance and improve the health and wellbeing of our community more exciting.

This is a tribute to the talents, kindness, compassion and generosity of Community Media of South Central PA’s current volunteers, interns, staff, management, board and sponsors and those that made the past 30 years possible.

When you get the chance, especially thank Mark Wherley and Brandon Glorioso for managing the operations of this community showcase of ours. We are surrounded by “Good people – Doing Good Things – Making a great Community” and we get to highlight these beautiful souls every day. Life is great. Please help us do more!”

Each year, a panel of judges evaluates over a thousand entries based on several factors including subject, experience and budget. Awards are then presented to the most creative programs that address community needs, develop diverse community involvement, challenge conventional commercial television formats and move viewers to experience television in a different way. Proceeds from the awards program are used exclusively for facilitating, preserving and promoting education in community media.

“The Hometown Media Awards celebrate both the excellence of work and the diversity of media that appears on community channels being produced around the country. The ACM Foundation is proud of their achievement and of how they represent their communities in their work,” said Mike Wassenaar, president & CEO, Alliance for Community Media.
