Your Civil War Portrait: Tintype Photography at the Shriver House

Have you ever wondered what it was like to sit for a photograph during the Civil War? Now is your chance to experience it for yourself. Join expert photographer and historian Robert Szabo at the historic Shriver House Museum to have your own tintype portrait made using the historic photographic process of the Civil War era.

As your portrait is created, Szabo will demonstrate the process and explain how photographers produced some of the most iconic images of 19th-century America. Best of all, you’ll leave with your one-of-a-kind tintype to keep.

Advance registration is preferred. Thirty-minute time slots are available starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m. on November 18th and 19th at the Shriver House Museum, 307 Baltimore Street, Gettysburg. Each session costs $90. Reserve your time slot here.

Note: No period clothing will be provided. You may dress in clothing of any era for your photograph.

Original tintypes will take time to dry and prepare after your appointment. Please plan to return at 4 p.m. each day for your finished image.
