Gettysburg Choral Society Announces Final Auditions for Landmark 10th Anniversary Season

August 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Gettysburg Choral Society is inviting experienced singers, especially tenors and
sopranos, to audition for its milestone 10th Anniversary Season, with the final audition date scheduled
for Monday, August 17, from 7:00–9:00 p.m. by appointment.

This extraordinary season offers singers the opportunity to participate in two exceptional performances that
combine artistic excellence with national historical significance.

On November 19, 2026, The Gettysburg Choral Society will serve as the official chorus for a once-in-a-lifetime
re-creation of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address. The event will recreate the original November 19, 1863
ceremony as closely as possible, featuring the chorus performing two selections from the original program
accompanied by a re-enactment Marine band in period uniforms using period instruments. Acclaimed
actor Billy Campbell, who portrayed Lincoln in the television docudrama Killing Lincoln, will portray the 16th
president during the ceremony. The event will serve as the culmination of a four-day commemoration
celebrating Gettysburg’s enduring place in American history.

The season continues with The Gettysburg Choral Society’s 10th Anniversary Christmas Concerts on Saturday,
December 5, at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 6, at 3:00 p.m. at the United Lutheran Seminary Chapel in
Gettysburg. These festive performances will feature a professional brass quintet and the world premiere of a
new Christmas work by acclaimed composer Mark Hayes, written especially for The Gettysburg Choral Society
and scored for chorus, organ, and brass.

The Gettysburg Choral Society welcomes experienced singers ages 18 and older who have prior choral
experience, can read music, and demonstrate vocal proficiency. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from
7:00–9:00 p.m. in Gettysburg. Professional singers and students pursuing music degrees may be eligible for
stipends.

“Whether you’re looking for a rewarding musical challenge, the opportunity to perform significant choral
repertoire, or the chance to be part of two unforgettable events, this is a season unlike any other,” said Julie
Strickland, Executive Director of The Gettysburg Choral Society. “We encourage qualified singers to take
advantage of this final opportunity to join us.”

Auditions are by appointment only. To schedule an audition, email julie@gettysburgchoralsociety.org
