Participants explore what stress is\, common stress responses\, and factors that contribute to stress in daily life\, including work demands\, life transitions\, and decision-making pressures. The training also examines how unmanaged stress can impact relationships\, workplace functioning\, and overall quality of life. Emphasis is placed on practical coping strategies\, stress-reduction techniques\, and the role of self-care in maintaining balance. Participants leave with realistic tools they can apply immediately to better manage stress and support personal and professional well-being. \n  \n\nObjectives \n\nDefine stress and distinguish between positive (eustress) and negative (distress) forms of stress.\nIdentify common physical\, emotional\, mental\, and behavioral responses to stress\, including personal warning signs.\nRecognize factors that make situations stressful\, including life transitions\, lack of control\, and perceived demands.\nExamine the impact of stress on decision-making\, relationships\, and workplace functioning.\nApply practical coping strategies and stress-reduction techniques to better balance personal and professional responsibilities.\nUnderstand the value of self-care and how it supports long-term health\, resilience\, and quality of life.\n\n\nFacilitator\nLisa Kennedy is a single parent of four adult children and a proud grandmother of four. She is a former foster parent and adoptive parent\, and currently serves as an elected School Board Director for the School District of the City of York. In addition\, she works as a Family Peer Support Specialist. For over 20 years\, Lisa has dedicated herself to supporting\, educating\, and advocating for children and families. She is passionate about learning and growing through the many opportunities she encounters while participating in workshops and trainings with others. Lisa has presented locally and across Pennsylvania on topics including education\, family support\, and mental health. Drawing from psychological research in cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness practices\, the training provides practical strategies to recognize and reframe negative thinking while fostering self-compassion\, balance\, and emotional stability. Through interactive reflection and discussion\, participants will leave equipped with tools to support themselves and others in building a more positive\, mentally healthy outlook. \n\nObjectives \n\nDescribe the relationship between positive thinking\, mental wellness\, and behavioral health outcomes.\nIdentify common forms of negative thinking and their impact on mood\, stress\, and behavior.\nApply research-based strategies such as cognitive reframing\, mindfulness\, and gratitude to counter negative thoughts.\nPractice self-awareness techniques to promote optimism\, resilience\, and emotional regulation in daily life.\nDevelop an individualized action plan for integrating positive practices into professional and personal routines to support sustained mental wellness.\n\n\nFacilitator\nLaurie Neyhard is a seasoned professional specializing in ergonomics\, wellness\, and health promotion. With over a decade of experience\, Laurie combines her expertise in injury prevention\, workplace wellness\, and life enrichment to design and implement impactful programs across various industries. Laurie holds a Master of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion from California University of Pennsylvania\, graduating summa cum laude\, and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management from Lock Haven University\, where she earned multiple accolades for academic and leadership excellence. Laurie also holds certifications in wellness\, fitness\, and caregiver training.
