SUMMARY:A Boy's Experience During the Battle of Gettysburg: Daniel Skelly's Story
DESCRIPTION:Born in December 1844\, Daniel Skelly was 18 years of age at the time of the Battle of Gettysburg. Like many other townspeople\, he witnessed the carnage of the battle and its aftermath firsthand. And like many citizens of the town\, he shared his story many times. In 1932\, with the help of his son\, he printed his recollections in a small booklet that was acknowledged as one of the most complete and insightful accounts by a civilian of Gettysburg. A member of a large and respected Gettysburg family which included an older brother\, Jack Skelly (boyfriend of Jennie Wade)\, Daniel was an employee of the Fahnestock Brothers Store. \nJoin historian Timothy H. Smith on Saturday\, May 16th at 11 a.m. as he discusses “A Boy’s Experiences During the Battles of Gettysburg\,” gives expanded details on Daniel’s stories\, and provides new information on the production of this well-known booklet. \nRegistration is required for this program. Tickets are free for Gettysburg History members and $10/general admission. Reserve your tickets here.
