SUMMARY:Adams County Heritage Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Adams County will once again celebrate unity in our community on September 20\, from noon until 4 PM\, when the Adams County Heritage Festival fills the Gettysburg Recreation Park with a sea of tents. For 35 years\, this event has offered free admission and free entertainment\, along with a dazzling array of ethnic foods and non-profit information booths.  This family-friendly event is designed to appeal to all income levels and all age groups. \nThe program kicks off at noon with the strains of a bagpiper marching through the Festival grounds.  On the heels of the opening ceremony will follow first the Knotwork Band\, with tunes from Ireland and the British Isles; next a colorful Mexican dance ensemble from Kennett Square; then a Barbershop Chorus from Frederick\, MD\, and finally an African American Blues Group from Washington\, DC. \nIf you’re interested in food\, a host of food trucks and food vendors representing many different nationalities will be on hand to provide lunch or something to take home for dinner. If international displays fascinate you\, then grab a Passport and get it stamped as you and your family visit booths representing various countries. \nHands-on artistic activities for kids will be offered in a special Children’s Area\, while a Children’s Bike Ride will take place early in the afternoon.  Kids of all ages will be fascinated by demonstrations of heritage crafts\, presented in keeping with the 250th Anniversary of our country. This opportunity to sample things international\, as well as a spectrum of music and crafts from American culture\, is unique to South-Central Pennsylvania. \nTo learn more about the Adams County Heritage Festival\, go to the ICPJ website at https://icpj-gettysburg.org/festival/.

SUMMARY:2026 International Peace Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Gettysburg\, PA — The World Affairs Council of Harrisburg will present the 2026 International Peace Symposium at Gettysburg College on Saturday\, September 19\, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in the CUB Ballroom\, with the Eisenhower Institute serving as a co-sponsor. The program\, titled 2026 International Peace Symposium: Peace or Forever Wars? Reclaiming America’s Soft Power & Diplomacy\, will examine America’s approach to diplomacy and soft power and its role in the world. \nThe symposium will consider America’s international standing since September 11\, 2001\, including relationships with and strains between the United States and its allies. Discussion will also address tariffs and international conflict\, along with broader questions about how the United States has used diplomatic influence and soft power and how those tools might affect its global role. \nThe program will consider whether renewed reliance on diplomacy and soft power could strengthen American leadership and influence\, presenting these issues as subjects for discussion rather than settled conclusions. The symposium concludes Eisenhower Institute Democracy Week and connects international affairs to the theme America at 250: Our Democracy\, Our World\, which examines American democracy at home and abroad. \nThe Eisenhower Institute at Gettysburg College connects aspiring young leaders with public policy experts to discover their passion and tackle society’s most challenging issues. We are nonpartisan\, inspired by President Eisenhower’s approach of engaging diverse people and ideas to find common ground and take action.

Built in 1776\, it is the oldest building in Gettysburg\, celebrating its 250th birthday alongside the birthday of the United States of America in 2026. \nThe Dobbin House\, appearing virtually the same as it did over 200 years ago\, stands as testament to the fortitude of the American spirit as well as the quality of genuine American craftsmanship. Its native stone walls\, seven fireplaces\, and hand carved woodwork have been painstakingly restored to their original beauty and character\, with interior decor in the traditional eighteenth century manner. Many of the home’s antique furnishings are identical to those listed in the inventory of Rev. Dobbin’s estate. The china and flatware exactly match fragments which were unearthed during the re-excavation of the cellar. The servant’s period-clothing is authentic to the local area. \nThe Dobbin House features the Springhouse Tavern; casual dining\, the Alexander Dobbin Dining Rooms; fine dining\, the Abigail Adams ballroom; banquet dining\, the Gettystown Inn; a bed and breakfast in three historic buildings\, the Country Curiosity Store; boutique shopping and guided 4-century history tours of the house. \nAs an authentic colonial tavern\, many visitors say the allure of Dobbin House stays with them long after their visit. More than a superior culinary delight\, to step into the iconic house is an enchanting journey back to the charming quaintness and lively spirit of Gettysburg’s and America’s beginnings.
