SUMMARY:Lincoln and Whitman: A Conversation Across Time
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Nov. 14\, 7 to 8:30 p.m.\nBattlefield Overlook Event Center\, 625 Biglerville Road\, Gettysburg\n\nJoin actors Stephen Lang and Billy Campbell for this special program moderated by Harold Holzer. \nTwo of the greatest writers of the 19th century—Abraham Lincoln and Walt Whitman—never formally met during the years they both lived in wartime Washington\, D.C. (though they came close). Yet they had a profound connection. Lincoln’s increasingly lean prose came to mirror Whitman’s iconic style and reflect his patriotism. And Whitman’s laudatory poetry enhanced Lincoln’s reputation as the “captain” who saved the ship of state during the rebellion. \nIn this all-new program—featuring dramatic readings culled entirely from Lincoln’s and Whitman’s own words—the two men speak\, as if to each other and certainly to us\, on the great issues of the day: war\, peace\, courage\, union\, friendship\, and martyrdom. \nRegistration is required. The cost to attend is $15 for Gettysburg History members and Lincoln Forum members\, and $25 for general admission. Reserve your tickets here. This event will be held on Saturday\, November 14th beginning at 7 p.m. at the Beyond the Battle Museum\, Battlefield Overlook Event Center\, 625 Biglerville Road\, Gettysburg.

Registration is required. \nThe cost to attend is $10 for Gettysburg History members and $20 for general admission. Reserve your tickets here. SUMMARY:Gettysburg's Little Round Top: A Photographic Journey
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, Oct. 17\, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.\nBattlefield Overlook Event Center\, 625 Biglerville Road\, Gettysburg\n\nOn July 2\, 1863\, an unassuming rocky hill in Gettysburg witnessed perhaps the most famous counterattack of the Civil War. On Little Round Top\, Union Colonel Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain led the 20th Maine to victory over the Confederate forces\, repelling the rebels with a fierce bayonet charge. Through their bravery and bloodshed\, Little Round Top would be forever enshrined in American history. \nUsing early maps\, illustrations\, and photographs\, historian Timothy H. Smith will explore the history of this iconic Gettysburg battlefield location — from its humble beginnings to the profound impact it continues to have on visitors today. \nThe discussion will be held Saturday\, October 17th from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Battlefield Overlook Event Center\, 625 Biglerville Road\, Gettysburg. \nRegistration is required. Tickets are free for Gettysburg History members and $10 for general admission. Reserve your tickets here.
