The SCD Walk/Run/Ride
September 9 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
September is a significant month for many, as it marks National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. In the spirit of unity and community, we are reaching out to invite you and the esteemed Young Women’s Empowerment Academy to the SCD Sickle Cell Walk on September 9, 2023.
Sickle Cell Disease affects countless individuals and families, and while it’s a medical condition, its implications stretch far beyond health. It’s about the stories, the struggles, and the resilience of those affected. In our communities it is not known but 1 in 333 white children born have Sickle Cell Trait, 1 in 100 Latino children are born with Sickle Cell Trait, and 1 in 13 African American children born have the Sickle Cell Trait. This is vital information because for each child born from 2 parents that have Sickle Cell Trait, there is a 1 in 4 chance the child will be born with Sickle Cell Disease.
This walk is more than just an event; it’s a testament to the power of community awareness and the change we can bring about when we come together.
