Confederates Take the Shriver House: Civilians Caught in the Crossfire!

July 1 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Space is limited, to assure your reservation – BOOK NOW.

During the Battle of Gettysburg, George Shriver’s home was commandeered by Confederate soldiers who set up a sharpshooters nest in the attic to fire their rifles on Union troops on Cemetery Hill. Learn first-hand what occurred during those three days of horror that terrified the citizens of Gettysburg and how the Shrivers’ home was used during and after the fighting.

  • Hettie and a few of neighbors discuss the impending battle
  • Seeking safety outside of town, Hettie took her two girls, Sadie (7) and Mollie (5), and their 15-year-old neighbor, Tillie Pierce, to her parents’ farm outside of town only to find themselves deep within the battle lines – at the base of Little Round Top!
  • Watch Confederate soldiers fire muskets from their sharpshooters’ nest in the attic
  • See beautifully furnished rooms of this fine home left in ruins by the invading forces
  • Learn how wounded soldiers struggled to survive in a make-shift hospital
  • Enjoy a refreshing root beer in Shriver’s Saloon at the end of the tour

Witness the only reenactment to take place in downtown Gettysburg, to discover the civilian side of the Battle of Gettysburg. It’s history where it actually happened.
